Department of Sociology
Ilqua Lutfi is an Associate Teacher for Sociology at Cedar College. She graduated from the University of Virginia with a double major in Global Development Studies and South Asian Studies. Her undergraduate thesis, published in the Oculus 2017, focused on the participation of women in bisi (bachat committee) groups in Karachi. Her research interests include: gender studies, post-structuralist studies of women’s bodies and selves, domestic labor relations in South Asia, family and kinship ties, and urban studies.
During her time in University of Virginia, she served as the President of the Pakistani Students Association and was also a member of the university’s Moot Court team. In 2016 she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest and most prestigious honor society for liberal arts and sciences in the United States.
Ilqua is a green-tea enthusiast; in her free time you’ll find her sitting at The Alamgir Quetta hotel with a cup of her favorite green-tea in hand!
